About the Awards

The London Transport Awards 2012 will be held at the Park Plaza Riverbank London on 21 March 2012.

The London Transport Awards are about recognising excellence in
transport, rewarding innovation and progress for transport initiatives which are really working.

"Transport is critical to the quality of life and financial success of London, and the dedication and hard work of those working to deliver this vision remains more important than ever. I am really proud to be able to hold these Awards to ensure both individuals and organisations get the recognition they deserve - especially so in the current climate, in which transport can play a key role in helping the economy emerge from the current recession.

I would like to wish everyone shortlisted the very best of luck for this year's Awards."

Prof David Begg,
Chair of the Judging Panel and Publisher of Transport Times

“2011 was a remarkable year of delivery for transport in the capital. At Transport for London alone, we saw a 50 per cent increase in capacity on the DLR, completion of the Jubilee line upgrade, the first New Bus for London delivered, start of works on the Emirates Airline cable car, record numbers carried on the Tube and buses and the continuing success of the Barclays Cycle Hire scheme.   Delivering these improvements while also operating one of the most extensive, efficient and effective transport networks in the world is testament to all our staff and those of our partners and contractors who work tirelessly to provide a world leading service to our customers.

As we celebrate, through the London Transport Awards, the achievements of the organisations, men and women who made all of this possible, we also look ahead with excitement to 2012.  This year, London’s transport network will face its greatest challenge.  The London 2012 Games is the ultimate test.  The equivalent of 26 simultaneous world championship events, unprecedented passenger numbers and a different challenge, every day, as we welcome the world to London.

But it is a challenge we will meet with confidence.  £6.5bn of investment in transport infrastructure delivered and in operation  a year ahead of the Games.  The partnerships we have built will help us meet our dual objectives for 2012 – supporting a great Games and keeping London and the UK moving.  Working together, we will ensure all those competing, watching and working on the Games can move safely and reliably around our city and that London prospers, as ever, the economic engine of the UK.

Alongside the Games, our investment and delivery continues unabated.  Crossrail tunnelling begins in earnest, the hugely successful London Overground orbital network will be completed, the Victoria line upgrade completed, Barclays Cycle Hire expanded eastwards and contactless debit and credit card payment rolled out on London’s bus network.

I am delighted to support these awards, which rightly celebrate the many achievements of the organisations which keep our city moving and growing, as we look forward to a great year for London and its transport network"
